Cool 3rd grade projects with Spring on its way!

Image
Our Trout in the Classroom project is finally underway! We have received our fish eggs, and will be learning about the life stages of fish and other forms of life over the coming weeks.  Stop by and see our latest hallway display. As part of our Math unit on geometry, the students created "Polygon Monsters," which include keys to explain which types of polygons they used to construct their creatures.  The students have been studying shading in Ms. Cassandra's art class. They have become quite skilled in the medium of charcoal!

We are already well into 2022, and the TISA 3rd grade has been building momentum, covering new concepts in Math, improving their reading and writing, doing cool art projects, and having fun all the way through.  On Wednesdays, the TISA Skating Club has been enjoying the ice rink at the Taos Youth and Family Center As an integrated art project with our Math unit on Geometry, the students have been working on Polygon Monsters using stencils with geometric shapes.  By Brayden By Sebastian By Zoe R.  The class has also been doing some interesting work in Ms. Cassandra's art class, exploring color wheels.  The TISA 3rd grade is going to be working with Trout Unlimited this Spring to raise trout in the class room, then go and release them into the river once they are mature. Thanks to Case's dad, we have gotten the tank set up and are awaiting the fish! The class has started reading a new book called And Now Miguel. Everyone should enjoy it because it is about a boy...

DIY projects and poetry books

The TISA 3rd grade was busy on a lot of projects prior to going on Winter Break in December. Here are a few of the outstanding projects that they completed. Thanks to the extraordinary help of our Art teacher, Ms. Cassandra, we made our own books, complete with covers and bindings. We filled our books with some of the amazing poetry that we had been writing all throughout the Fall.                                                         Here is Claire's Poetry Book.  Here is a lovely one by Quinn. Erica made a marvelous Poetry Book. Here is a Shape Poem and a Haiku from Brayden's book. In concluding our unit on the book, Little House in the Big Woods, the 3rd grade created Do-It-Yourself projects, just like Laura and her family would have had to do in the olden days. The students chose some excellent items to make, and did a remarkab...

The students have been busy on projects, playing new games in sport, and enjoying more cool field trips! Outer Space Art by Sonny, Brayden, and Zoe R.  Pages from upcoming poetry books by Aliyah, Claire, and Sebastian Our class recently took a field trip to the Harwood Museum. We were lucky enough to be guided through the Blue Lake exhibit by Sonny and his mom, who are from Taos Pueblo. We also got to go around and explore lots of the amazing art that is on display at the museum.  We are very fortunate that the fathers of three of our students are US veterans! On Veterans' Day, they came in to talk to the class about their experience in the military.  Our class went on a virtual field trip with Asis Gonzalez from the Santa Fe Children's Museum. He is very knowledgeable about space, and he took us on a tour through time and through galaxies using some amazing computer...

Halloween parade, rained out field trip, and much more

Image
Everyone turned out in creative costumes on Thursday for the Halloween parade! Our hiking field trip turned out to be a washout. We got hit with a bad storm and had to turn around. In these photos, you can see us starting out, stopping to put rain jackets on, and then crowding into warm cars while we waited for the bus to come! In class, we have been learning songs about Fall in preparation for the Lantern Walk on November 4th. This is one of our favorites: The class has been learning about the sun, moon, and stars in recent Science lessons. Take a look at these stellar art project the students did on constellations. The class was talking about cause and effect in Literacy this week. See if you can figure out what the causes and effects are in these creative notebook entries! Third grader Zoe is an aspiring author. We had a special treat the other day when Zoe read to us from a book that she had written and illustrated!
