The TISA 3rd grade has been busy as usual, as the 2nd trimester drew to a close in the last week, we put the finishing touches to our "I Have a Dream" projects, inspired by Martin Luther King. The class did an outstanding job on this project, collecting quotations from King's famous speech, writing an essay about their own "dreams," and putting it all together on a beautiful poster thanks to Ms. Ali. The "Peace Posters" are now on display in the hallway of the main building.  We had our Valentine's celebration this week. Our class of course got to go around the room and drop off Valentine's goodies on one another's desks, but the highlight of the day was definitely when we got to go visit Ms. Melissa's Kindergarten class and exchange Valentine's gifts with them, donated to the class through the generosity of an anonymous donor!  Who wants to go to school on a Friday? Fortunately for us, Fun Friday this week included a visit to the G

Our class has been doing lots of cool stuff lately. In the last couple of weeks, members of the Skating Club have improved a great deal. On Tuesdays, we have been getting visited by students from Taos High School to read with our students. We have been working to prepare our Peace Posters which will be put on display at school along with our "I Have a Dream" papers. And.... we have passed the 100-day mark of the school year. To celebrate, the students dressed up like little centenarians! Here are some of our students absorbed in reading books with their Reading Mentors. Here we are at Skating Club. On this day we had the whole rink to ourselves! After studying the "I Have a Dream" speech, students picked out quotes for their posters. Here is what some of us will look like in 90 years: We have now concluded all of our DIY presentations. Here are soap and candles. Very useful!

Do-It-Yourself projects

The Do-It-Yourself projects inspired by our reading of Little House in the Big Woods were a huge success. Every year the 3rd graders come up with amazingly creative ideas for projects, but this year's class was particularly outstanding. Not only did the work very hard at making things like they did in the "old days," but they also made posters showing what they did and gave very informative presentations about the process.  Delfino made a rolling toy car out of many different scrap materials.  Odin went out into the woods and using this tool collected sap from trees.  Violet made her own dress. She cut out the cloth and sewed it herself. Arielle very skillfully made corn husk dolls. She explained the whole process well in her presentation. Scarlett made some delicious taffy. The class was very appreciative when she shared it.  Skye made her own "Little House." It was incredibly detailed and true to the house in the story.  Marehly made her own board game. Her cl
