The 3rd grade had a fantastic time at Las Golondrinas in Santa Fe on Wednesday. Our first field trip of the year was a huge success. We rode down in the school bus, and while we were there we learned a lot about what life was like for Spanish settlers in Old New Mexico over 200 years ago! Hornos Plow La Maestra La Placita La Capilla Enjoying the beautiful landscape The Mill Old-fashioned bedroom The blacksmith's Class weaving project Deep hole at the mill In our Language and Culture Club, we have been learning about the Chinese art of making tangrams.  In Ms. Cassandra's art class, we have been learning the Japanese art of painting on rice paper.

The Mighty 3rd Grade Bake Sale

Our bake sale to raise money for the field trip on Wednesday to Las Golondrinas was a huge success. Thank you to all the families for bringing in such wonderful baked goods, and thanks especially to all the students who proved themselves a talented bunch of salespeople by attracting customers and handling the cashflow.  We are all very excited for the field trip. Please visit this website if you want to find out more about Las Golondrinas, the "Ranch of Swallows." With all the money we earned through the bake sale, we may even be able to go on another field trip soon!

What's going on in 3rd grade?

The 3rd Grade at TISA has been very busy doing all kinds of things in Math, Literacy, Science, Social Studies and Art. Take a look at some of the awesome work that has been going on in our classroom! In Science, we have been studying different types of energy. Here you can see how the students tested wind energy using their own pinwheels! One of the important things we do after our Science projects it to write about them by answering a Focus Questions. Our answers usually include key Scientific words that we have studied in our readings. Take a look at these students' excellent answers to a Focus Question about Light Energy.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, we came up with 40.... In Literacy, the class has been working on a new word-generation strategy called Picture-Word Practice. We all took a close look at this picture, and look at all the words we came up with from it! We have also been enjoying reading the book Stone Fox, by John Reynolds Gardiner, lately.
