More incredible work from 3rd grade

The 3rd grade read a book about the American Flag over the last week. They went on to look at flags from around the world, and even design one of their own! Take a look at this nice flag by AJ. And there is another one by Seth. I wonder what country that flag is from!

As we study the Solar System, students have begun making posters and dioramas showing the planets. Here is a really good poster by Cora. She did a nice job of using vibrant colors for all the planets and showing their relative sizes.

Look at these pictures of the sundial that Jack made. You can clearly see that the shadow of the straw has moved after 15 minutes. Cora designed sundial nicely with some beautiful colors and stickers. Seth also used a colorful design to make his sundial. Emma made up a nice design for her clock too. You can see how Destiny took her photo at a time when the shadow was very long. Oliver and Ira also came up with some nice examples of sundials. 

The 3rd grade went on a virtual field trip last week to the planetarium with the Santa Fe Children's Museum. The class then wrote Thank You letters to Asis, who hosted our trip. Ira was nice enough to include some cute kitty pictures with his Thank You letter. Ira was so inspired by outer space and his love for cats that he made a comic strip about a kitty who travels through space. 

The TISA 3rd grade has been working on their cursive writing since the start of the year. Look at how neatly and elegantly Destiny writes in cursive. 

People have been doing beautiful work in Ms. Cassandra's Art class as well. Look at this cute Japanese Anime animal by AJ. 

Our Story Building Assignment was a huge success. The 3rd grade students did amazing work collaborating with their classmates on writing interesting and creative stories. 

Here is one by Ira:

( IRA’s ) Once upon a time there was a dinosaur running from an asteroid (BOOM BOOM BOOM). But the dinosaur was still alive. You may be wondering what is the dinosaur, well it is a T-Rex. He saw something way smarter than him,  another dinosaur that was very different and smaller, but not that different. I was still a hunter but different. It was a raptor. The t-rex was lodged between two rocks that had fallen on him, but the raptor helped him get free. 

(MAMA) They walked together and that night they slept under a tree not too far away from a lake, but far enough away that one of the giant crocodiles wouldn't come out and eat them. It was nice to have somebody to sleep by, because that way there was two of them to hear if anybody was coming in the night.  In the morning they decided that they wanted to continue to help each other survive. So they stayed together.

(IRA) They woke up and they were under the jungle tree. They musta got carried away sleepwalking, but then in the jungle they saw something so magical and it was a kitten. But their eyes were playing tricks on them, they kept walking, then they saw a big temple that was the King's Lair. They didn’t see, but they smelled some delicious food, and they saw stuff they never saw before.

(MAMA) What they saw was a long table, but because they were dinosaurs, they didn't know what a table was. There was a weird creature there, that stood on two legs and had no snout and long arms. When the creature spoke to them, they didn't understand what it was saying, So the dinosaurs just shook their heads from side to side and tried to look friendly and the creature looked friendly too and it made a motion with his hands that said to  eat. The began to eat from the table and the creature also began to eat. and so after a while, they were so full that they lay down from drowsiness and fell asleep. 

(IRA) Then they heard weird music, but then they saw the King, that I wasn't their eyes playing with them, it was real, It was the kitten, then it drank some milk, then it went to bed with the dinosaurs. Then they smelled something they never smelled before. It was milk. The kitten wants to go to sleep with the dinosaurs. Translating to a different language, what should be his name, how about Damien. And then they chose Damien as his name. All goodness went around. They stayed for a while, then went to leave for other dinosaurs. -----------The End                 Hope you have a good day or night when you’re reading this. Goodnight 

Here is The Three Little Pups by Destiny, Aubrey, and Rain:

The Three Little Pups 

Once  upon a time.  There were  three pups that got lost from their mother. the mother was sad that  they were  lost .  The pups were scared and hungry.  A little girl named Abigail was walking down the trail and saw the three pups. She felt sad for them and decided to take them home. The girl was worried . The pups followed  the girl. The girl was playing with the pups. The  girl began to stop playing for a while .Then the girl went to the house and knocked on the door. The girl said Abigail took good care of the pups .The mother dog was sad she was looking day and night for her babies. She started to get weak, tired, and hungry. So she decided to take a nap by the tree. One day the little girl and the pups went for a walk. The puppies started to bark and run towards some trees. Abigail ran after them, when she caught up to them she saw a dog licking the babies. She was sure that the puppies belonged to her. Abigail went up to the big dog and pet her, she licked Abigail. Abigail took the babies and the dog mother followed her home. The puppies and mom dog were so happy to be together again. Abigail decided her family is  going to keep the dogs. The dogs were so happy to be in a safe home, and Abigail was happy to have some new friends. You are the best.

They had a lot of fun with Abigail  3 weeks later the puppies were grown up Abigail was their best friend ever Abigail was all grown up she was 18 years old. Abigail decided to stay close to home and go to college in her hometown so she could be close to her best friends forever. this is one of the pups.

Here is Natalia and Cora's story:

Once upon a time there were three kittens. They were cute, fuzzy, and playful. They loved snuggles. Their names are Cloud, Cotton, and Marshmallow. They are all white fluffy kittens and their mom can’t tell them apart. One day they went to the park to play. The kittens had fun playing but soon they got very hungry. Their Mom took them to get something to eat. They got fish. They got thirsty so they got milk. Then they went back home. They got lost on the way home and they kept trying to find their home.  On their way they came across a helpful Squirrel in his tree. The mom cat asked if the  squirrel could help them find their way home. The squirrel climbed up to the top of the tree to see if he could spot their house. He saw the cabin with the brown roof and climbed back down to help them on their way. T  ki       it was a good idea to climb up and they got stuck. Cloud and Cotton were brave enough to jump down. Marshmallow was too scared to jump down. A bat flew by and asked Marshmallow if she needed help. Marshmallow said yes. The bat got her by the scruff of her neck and flew her down. Marshmallow thanked the bat and they all went with The squirrel. On their way they had to cross a river. A turtle said, “Do you want a ride across the river?” They said yes and fed him a  strawberry and went across the river and went home.

One day Emma was bored at home and called Lillyana and asked her if she wanted to do something adventurous because it was boring at home. Lillyana said let's go hiking. It was a nice day, not too hot and not windy or cold. Lillyana then rode her ATV to Emma's house. They rode their ATVs up the hiking trail.

Emma said Instead let's go to the crystal 

cave. Lillyana said that's a great idea .

They drove their ATVs up a small trail and got stuck so they walked for 1 hour before they reached the crystal cave. They walked inside the cave with their flash lights on and saw the beautiful crystal walls. Emma tried to break off a crystal but it wouldn't come off the wall. Just then they heard a loud growl.

They jumped and turned around and saw a great big bear! They ran out of the cave as fast as

they could and ran all the way home.

They got home and ran inside.

Lillyana said maybe instead we can go to the zoo to see the animals that won't chase us.

When we get to the zoo we check out the polar bears, the giraffes and the tigers. After the zoo we go get ice cream and we go back home.

Emma said maybe we can have a sleepover at your house. So after getting ice cream they went to Lillyana’s house and enjoyed the end of their day together

Here is a very nice story by Nash and Michael Greeley:

Once there was a dog and his name was Duke but he did not have any friends but he had a good family. Duke has a brother named Buddy. They live in a town called metro. They live in a big 

home.  One day the family went to  the park for a walk the kids played. There  were a lot of  dogs, Duke was shy. A dog came over to snifted Duke. It was a boy dog, it was a big dog. Then Duke sniffed back. Then  they played geler. They had fun and there were friends. They  played every day. They love each other.They were good friends.They went to the park every day. 

The family is proud of  Duke and Buddy made a friend too. One day it was a stormy night Duke and Buddy were asleep and the family were eating dinner.Duke and Buddy were hungry so the Dad fed them. The next day it was sunny so the family went to the store.They got dog food Duke and Buddy were hipt!  Then Duke thent to the vet after the vet fell asleep then Duke woke up. He was in a car, the family were going on a trip, Duke was excited. They were farm and Duke ran around . It was dark and the family were asleep. The next  day the family were going to the zoo but Duke kant go Duke is alone Buddy was asleep the family were gone for a long time Duke was nervis.

And here is a cool story by Cedar and Jossen:

Once there were three animals who loved trampolines one was: a snake. Two was: a dog. three was: a red tailed hawk. The red-tailed hawk, named Glider, was flying when he spotted his friend dog, named Spot, who was  being bullied by the snake, named Venom. Glider dived,Venom shot down a hole.

 After a minute Venom peeked out to see if Glider was still there, he was. Spot thanked Glider “thank you,” he said. “No problemo,” said Glider.

After 5 minutes venom peaked again, and Glider was not there behind the hole.

Glider was gliding, he had spotted Venom, he swooped down and caught 

Venom’s head.

 Meanwhile Spot had spotted a trampoline he yelled “Glider drop 

him on that trampoline!” “Okay” Glider yelled back and he dropped Venom on

the trampoline.

 Spot got an idea he told Glider to put him on the trampoline, Glider did. They jumped and jumped and jumped.
