Fossil-making projects, One-Pagers, and Candy bar drilling

The 3rd Grade at TISA has done some impressive work in the last couple of weeks, especially in Science and Social Studies. The students learned about the geological conditions that it takes to make a fossil. Then, they had the chance to make some fossils of their own! Take a look at some of the fossil-making projects done by our students.

In Social Studies, we have been learning about the different ways of travel that developed in the United States during the 1800s. We read about the Pony Express, the Transcontinental Railroad, and the Oregon Trail, just to name a few. The students were tasked with creating a One-Pager, using words and images to convey what they had learned. These are some of the marvelous results.

Ira and his dad discovered that they could play the old video game, Oregon Trail online. This game stands the test of time as a great way to teach students about what it was like for the original settlers of the West to travel on the Oregon Trail. Thank you Ira and Anthony!

In continuing with our studies of Geology, the students did another Science experiment, in which they drilled through candy bars in order to discover the layers beneath. Just like geologists studying the layers of Earth, they found there was more underneath than could be seen on the surface.
