Creative Cuckoo Clocks

Image
As part of our Math lesson on telling time, the students worked with Ms. Cassandra, the Art teacher, to create cuckoo clocks and paper-plate clock faces. The 3rd grade enjoyed learning to tell time by manipulating the hands on clocks that they designed themselves. Nice work everybody! Oliver Mila Elsada Cedar AJ Destiny Lillyana Ira Emma Take a look at some of this amazing 3rd grade student work too. Cora did an excellent job of making her One-Pager about the ways that our country was connected in its early days. She fulfilled the requirement of covering every inch of her paper with interesting drawings and facts. You can also see this diorama by AJ. He chose the scene from Little House in the Big Woods, in which Charly stirs up a hornets' nest! AJ did a great job of making the hornets seem like they were really flying.

The TISA 3rd grade has done some brilliant work lately. Check this post to see their One-Pagers, which they did on some of the Native American tribes that we studied.  Nash Oliver Cedar Lillyana AJ Destiny Check out people's Rock Experiments. Here, the 3rd grade was assigned to go out and find interesting specimens of rocks, and write about their characteristics. You will see what a good eye some of the students have for rock collecting.  Lillyana Here are a few more Little House in the Big Woods dioramas. These students did excellent jobs of creating settings for the Ingalls family.  Emma Destiny Elsada One way we have improved on our time-telling skills lately has been to make our own cuckoo clocks. These students not only have a good concept of how to tell time on a real clock, they also have a keen artistic ability for making nice arrangements for their time pieces.  Lillyana Ira Emma In Science, we learned about weathering and erosion lately. The Science project...

Shoebox Dioramas and Rock Characteristics

Image
The TISA 3rd graders have done some quite impressive work recently on their Little House dioramas. Their task was to create a lifelike diorama illustrating a setting from the book that we read in November, Little House in the Big Woods. These students worked very hard to create some rather exceptional dioramas.  Jack Lillyana Nash Mila Oliver Athena Ira Cedar The class has also been studying Geology lately. Their job for this assignment was to collect several samples of rocks, and classify them according to their characteristics. As you can see, some of them did a very good job of picking interesting examples of rocks, and using the information that we learned about recently to examine them closely. AJ Nash Seth
