Creative Cuckoo Clocks

As part of our Math lesson on telling time, the students worked with Ms. Cassandra, the Art teacher, to create cuckoo clocks and paper-plate clock faces. The 3rd grade enjoyed learning to tell time by manipulating the hands on clocks that they designed themselves. Nice work everybody!

Take a look at some of this amazing 3rd grade student work too. Cora did an excellent job of making her One-Pager about the ways that our country was connected in its early days. She fulfilled the requirement of covering every inch of her paper with interesting drawings and facts. You can also see this diorama by AJ. He chose the scene from Little House in the Big Woods, in which Charly stirs up a hornets' nest! AJ did a great job of making the hornets seem like they were really flying.

TCC and Guadalupe gym field trips and Students of the Month for December and January

Congratulations once again to Caira for winning the Smelly T-Shirt Reading Contest in the Fall. Acknowledgement is also in order for Abby, Willow, and Analyia, who came in close runners up.  Fortunately for everyone, our class is starting up a new Reading Contest for the Spring. The theme is a Reading Marathon. We are now writing our reading logs on "running feet," which we are going to put up around the school and see how far we get! Students will continue to earn stickers, which they can put on their marathon avatars.  Our class went on a fantastic field trip last week to the Talpa Community Center. We got to visit the library, where the students explored new books and read to each other. Thanks to the librarian there, Ms. Lucita, we also got to make tortillas. They came out so tasty, and the students enjoyed eating them for lunch paired with butter, peanut butter, and fresh jam. Final field trips

The Third Grade has been busy learning and going on educational field trips. Here you can see some of the projects and activities that we have been up to.  Here we are at the Talpa Community Center, where Ms. Luzita read us a cool story called The Arrow of the Sun. We then did an art activity based on the story and played in the playground.  We went to the Taos Junction Bridge, where we investigated the types of insects that trout like to eat in their natural habitat.  After visiting the river we went to the New Mexico Wildlife Center in Espanola. We saw owls, hawks, and a bobcat. We had a number of new Students of the Month for April and May. Congratulations to them for all their hard work and the unique gifts they bring to our class! More project presentations. People helped clean, helped take care of animals, helped work in restaurants and do laundry! More photos of the NMWC. The weather was perfect that day. More incredible work from 3rd grade

The 3rd grade read a book about the American Flag over the last week. They went on to look at flags from around the world, and even design one of their own! Take a look at this nice flag by AJ . And there is another one by Seth . I wonder what country that flag is from! As we study the Solar System, students have begun making posters and dioramas showing the planets. Here is a really good poster by Cora. She did a nice job of using vibrant colors for all the planets and showing their relative sizes. Look at these pictures of the sundial that Jack made. You can clearly see that the shadow of the straw has moved after 15 minutes. Cora designed sundial nicely with some beautiful colors and stickers. Seth also used a colorful design to make his sundial. Emma made up a nice design for her clock too. You can see how Destiny took her photo at a time when the shadow was very long.
