US Cities posters and much more

 Mila made her poster about San Francisco. She used some very nice colorful imagery here. 


AJ's project was about Los Angeles. Great job making the mountains and the Ferris Wheel.


Oliver's poster was also about Los Angeles. He chose a whole bunch of interesting facts to include. 


Lillyana's city was Boston. She put some nice touches on hers for St. Patrick's Day.


Emma also did her project on Boston. She picked some of the most iconic things about Boston to include on her poster. 


Nash did his project on Los Angeles. He did an amazing job of drawing the city buildings and the sun. 


Rainflower did an excellent job recording her observations on this Science project about melting ice.


Destiny did a great job on this recent Science project. She fingerprinted herself and a few of her family members, and compared the fingerprints. 


Destiny also made an amazing drawing of the different layers of the human skin. 


Lillyana made a very nice cursive alien. Who knew that cursive writing, when made symmetrical, could produce such weird shapes?


Ira completed the movie scene project from And Now Miguel. There is definitely an action-packed scene going on here.

Congratulations once again to Caira for winning the Smelly T-Shirt Reading Contest in the Fall. Acknowledgement is also in order for Abby, Willow, and Analyia, who came in close runners up.  Fortunately for everyone, our class is starting up a new Reading Contest for the Spring. The theme is a Reading Marathon. We are now writing our reading logs on "running feet," which we are going to put up around the school and see how far we get! Students will continue to earn stickers, which they can put on their marathon avatars.  Our class went on a fantastic field trip last week to the Talpa Community Center. We got to visit the library, where the students explored new books and read to each other. Thanks to the librarian there, Ms. Lucita, we also got to make tortillas. They came out so tasty, and the students enjoyed eating them for lunch paired with butter, peanut butter, and fresh jam. Acequia field trip and US State projects

The 3rd grade worked very hard on their US State poster projects. The students created some awesome artwork, and did a great job standing up in front of the class presenting. We also had a field trip recently to the Taos acequia system. The class had a fantastically fun time watching the water flow through the ditches.  The moment when we opened the sluice for the first time this season! We saw some cool wildlife, including peacocks! The class maintained good order while out in the field, as usual. Trout Release and Hiking Field Trip

It was sad to have to say goodbye to our trout last week, but we think they are better off in their natural habitat. And speaking of habitats, our class was fortunate enough to go with Rivers and Birds to the Columbine-Hondo trail in Red River, where we learned the basics about enjoying wilderness areas responsibly.  Before releasing the trout, our class shared what they had learned with the Kindergarten.  Habitats. A trout's diet. Stages of life of trout. The Nitrogen Cycle. Getting them out of the tank wasn't as easy as we had anticipated.  Hanging out by the fishing pond.  Getting ready to throw out handfuls of food to big, hungry trout.  Getting our feet wet for the actual release.  Lucky catch! Nothing like eating an Italian ice while watching someone else fish.  Ms. Darcy's Italian ices might have been the highlight of the whole trip.  An idyllic setting at the Red River Hatchery.
