3rd Grade Hits the Ground Running

 The third grade at TISA has accomplished a whole lot in just the two weeks since we started school. Take a look at some of the stuff they have been working on! 

Our remote learners made thermometers. Look at the great Science notebook entry that Skyler did!


We recently read the book, How to Be Cool in the Third Grade. The students have already gotten to work on their projects for this book, which include self-portraits. Look at this lovely self-portrait by Oliver!


Thanks to our art teacher, Ms. Cassandra, we now have a beautiful gallery wall in our room!



The students have been studying the art of Henry Matisse. Look at Eli, Kellen and Sonny's version of the famous Fish Bowl!




After-school groups have been a lot of fun. While unwinding after school, Olivia made this funny drawing on the board. 


One of the first projects we worked on when we arrived at school was to make name tags for ourselves, which showed a few things about us. Here are some very nice ones by Quinn and Claire. 




We have also been studying the work of the artist Joan Miro. Here are some excellent examples by Zia, Aliyah, Mariah, Zoe B, Jeremy, Charlytte, and Brayden.  











In Science we studied the states of matter, including solids, liquids and gases. These students came up with comprehensive lists of all kinds of things that fall under these categories. Here are some good ones by Erica and Zoe R.



The third grade has already learned all the colors in Spanish! Ask any third grader to sing you the color song, and you will be impressed by what you hear. 


In our studies of American history, we have read about the early American settlers and the Native Americans. Look at these amazing Mind Maps that some of the students created. Here is a good one by Sebastian.


The third grade has done a great job of taking care of our classroom. Everyone has been doing a fantastic job at their... job!

Congratulations once again to Caira for winning the Smelly T-Shirt Reading Contest in the Fall. Acknowledgement is also in order for Abby, Willow, and Analyia, who came in close runners up.  Fortunately for everyone, our class is starting up a new Reading Contest for the Spring. The theme is a Reading Marathon. We are now writing our reading logs on "running feet," which we are going to put up around the school and see how far we get! Students will continue to earn stickers, which they can put on their marathon avatars.  Our class went on a fantastic field trip last week to the Talpa Community Center. We got to visit the library, where the students explored new books and read to each other. Thanks to the librarian there, Ms. Lucita, we also got to make tortillas. They came out so tasty, and the students enjoyed eating them for lunch paired with butter, peanut butter, and fresh jam. Fact Flowers, Student of the Month, and Yoga at TISA

 The Third Grade has been working on a colorful integrated art project for math. If you are visiting our school, stop by the Elementary hallway to see our lovely Fact Flowers! The students took a number, such as 8, and came up with as many addition and subtraction problems as they could that equal 8.  TISA was proud to honor two Students of the Month. These students stood out at the beginning of the year for showing the TISA values of Thoughtfulness, Integrity, Safety, and Artistry.  The Third Grade students have been doing an excellent job of leading their class through activities. Here is one student coming up to show us how to use the Number Grid.  The students have enjoyed doing Yoga with Ms. Reema. Yoga is a fantastic physical education activity that gets them moving, stretching, and balancing.

3rd grade off to a fantastic start!

Lots of cool stuff has been happening in the 3rd grade since we started school a couple of weeks ago. The students have been doing a great job of getting to know one another again, becoming familiar with the classroom procedures, and working hard on all that they do.  Here are some photos from our Summer Break Show and Tell. The students did a good job of figuring out what their classmates brought beforehand. Then when it came to be their turn to stand up and share, they all did awesome at speaking clearly and telling the class some interesting things about their summer.  Freya brought one shoe - because the other one got lost in the river! Justin spent time constructing elaborate Lego sets over the summer. Violet won a medal for softball. Cypress got a lovely necklace on her summer vacation.  Ruby won a Pokemon hat at the fair. Yes, those ears are actually moving! Avaree made these cool clothespin creatures at camp. Rowan shared with us this cuddly character. Willow found this amazing
