Mesa Prieta

The Third Grade had an amazing time on the field trip to Mesa Prieta the other day, where we got to see petroglyphs that may be over 1,000 years old!  We thought that our Delfino was unique. Turns out there have been Delfinos in this area for centuries! We learned about what certain strange symbols might mean. Our tour guides, Sandy and Ken, were very knowledgeable about the history of our region. Lugging our lunch up the hill was a challenge. ...But we made it! After eating, the students wrote their own "Stories in Stone."  Beautiful views of the Sangre de Cristos. The ancient Anasazi sure picked a good place.  Our class also was fortunate to receive dictionaries from the Rotary Club. Use them!

Art projects and fun TISA activities

The TISA 3rd grade has been studying the Solar System lately. Take a look at these projects the students made, constructing constellations out of marshmallows and toothpicks.  You might not have noticed we were gone, but last week our class went on a virtual field trip to Outer Space! Thanks to the Santa Fe Children's Museum, we were able to view black holes and distant galaxies. The students asked some great questions about space.  Despite the snow delay, we had our annual TISA Read-a-Thon on Thursday. The students brought blankets and pillows and hunkered down for some solid reading. Altogether the class read over 200 books or chapters to raise money for our Spring field trips.
