Leather working, Read a Thon, and US States project
During the last couple of weeks before Spring Break, the Third Grade class at TISA has done a lot of cool and fun things. We had a visit from the mother of one of our students, who is an expert leather worker. She showed everyone how to imprint designs into leather. We all had a great time, and got to take home some very nice finished leather pieces!
Our dance classes have been ramping up, as the dance teacher is taking the students through all the major dance movements of the 20th century. They have done the 1920's, the 1930's, and all the intervening decades until now, when they are up to the 1960's.
Our class went on a field trip recently to the Harwood Museum. We had a great walk over there. The students got to view art made by an artist who works with wood, shaping it into some fascinating designs. After going through the museum, we got to go to the children's room to work on our own origami-inspired coloring books.

Everyone got really excited and did a great job on our US States Project, in which the students got to research information about the states of their choice, and make creative posters showing all the interesting stuff they came up with. Their final work was extremely impressive, with most of the class earning perfect scores on the assignment for the quality of their research, the level of accuracy in their maps, and the overall organization.
Once everyone had brought in their posters, the students then had the opportunity to present their work to the class.
This post wouldn't be complete if we didn't mention our TISA Read-a-Thon. Everyone had fun coming to school in their pajamas. The class read all morning long, with some people reading by themselves, some students reading to their peers, and some parents coming and reading with the students. Thanks to everyone who pledged to support this year's Read-a-Thon, it looks like we'll raise enough to go on a really cool end-of-the-year class trip!
HAPPY SPRING BREAK!
