2022 Year off to an Amazing Start

Image
The 3rd grade class has covered a lot of ground since arriving back at school, now almost two weeks ago! Our first art display, Sunflowers, is now up in the hallway. Stop in and check it out! For this project, the students worked with Ms. Linda, painting their beautiful sunflowers with Q-tips.  Our class has been learning the basic procedures that will help us to have a successful schoolyear. After studying the classroom rules, the 3rd grade made comics to show some of the things NOT to do in school. The results gave us a good laugh! In Social Studies, we have commenced our geography studies for the year by looking at the continents of the world. For this activity, the students joined in groups to help each other decide which countries belonged in which continents. Almost all of their group-decisions were accurate! TISA started having afterschool programs last week. After the students finish their homework in tutoring, they may have free-time to create art or read. Look at th...

Museum Trip and Art-Integrated Math Project

The 3rd grade had an amazing field trip to the Harwood Museum. The students were a bunch of troopers, walking all the way there from school! The journey was worth it, because we saw some beautiful Taos-inspired artwork, and created many incredible works ourselves.  The students recently had the opportunity to use their math skills to build their own city! They calculated the area and perimeter of certain essential city buildings, and presented to the class their designs.

3rd Grade End-of-Year Field Trips

As our year comes to a close, the 3rd grade has wrapped up a few of their ongoing projects and has gone on some awesome field trips over the last few weeks.  Before going to the Red River Hatchery, where we released our trout into their natural habitat, the 3rd grade gave lessons to the TISA kindergarten on all the things they had learned over the previous months, including trout life cycles, anatomy, habitat, and nutrition! Going to the Hatchery was an amazing experience. We got to tour all the different tanks where they keep trout in their various stages of life. We got to feed a pond-full of hungry adult trout, and we got to go fishing, where several people from our class had some significant catches.  Our class went along with the 4th graders to visit the Albuquerque Zoo. We saw many incredible animals, including penguins, peacocks, and chimpanzees! Our classes were also lucky enough to have a private lesson with some of the zoo's wildlife experts.

Spring projects and activities for TISA 3rd grade

Our class has been doing lots of cool stuff over the last month. Here are some of the projects, activities, and field trips that our class has enjoyed.  In Science, we studied habitats recently. In addition to talking about how animals adapt to all the various habitats throughout the world, we matched animals to the habitats using these cards. In Social Studies, we have been deepening our understanding of maps. Using topographical maps of the United States, we were able to find information about the elevation and population of certain state capitals. For Literacy, we have been improving our typing skills. This year, we all learned how to write in cursive. Now, we are preparing for the 4th grade by making sure we can type without looking at the keyboard. These "keyboard boxes," which the students made with Miss Cassandra, help a lot! In Math, we recently integrated our lessons on area and perimeter with a cool art project. The students had to measure and cut out rectangles wit...
